API Data Importer Tool

Works with:
Google Sheets

Overview

As great as the platforms you’re using are and the dashboards they provide out of the box, nothing beats using a spreadsheet to analyze your data. In most cases, they let you export it out via CSV files. The only issue with that is that it’s a manual process and will only be as up to date as when someone last exported it out. That’s not very ideal if you’re planning to track the data to gain business insights and make critical business decisions on a rolling basis.

That’s where APIs come in handy. The majority of platforms will have some sort of API support, allowing you to pull your data out into any other platform you need - like Google Sheets for example. The only hurdle you’ll face with integrating with their API is needing a software developer to help you with that. Or in some cases, you can pay for a Zapier integration if it exists. Either way, there’s a technical hurdle you’ll need to overcome to leverage the API and get your data out in an automated fashion. Once you have it set up though, you’ll be able to create dynamic reports, alerts, and workflows using that data.

This is where Suite App Tools comes in with our Google Sheet Add-on for importing API data. We made this tool with the intention of having business users free themselves from the shackles of monthly subscriptions (like Zapier) or needing to take time away from your tech team to build the integration.

What You Get

With our API Data Importer Add-on App for Google Sheets, you’ll get the ability to pull data from any API that provides JSON responses. We support all of the common authentication methods such as Basic Auth, API keys, Client Tokens, and Client ID/Secrets via Oauth2.

To make things easier, we also let you save your authentication credentials and reuse them in subsequent API calls - making it less time consuming to pull data from multiple endpoints from the same API service. We also save your request history for quick access to API requests that you might need to re-run.

With a premium license, you’ll also get the ability to set up automated jobs that will pull in data from your saved request on a daily or weekly schedule. This feature alone will save you tons of manual effort and time, allowing you to focus on the more on your actual objective - analyzing the data to obtain business intelligence.

Core Features

How It Works

We designed this tool to be as simple as possible without jeopardizing the functionality. The hardest part you’ll encounter is setting up the authentication for your API request. Not to worry though, you’ll be able to save your authentication settings so you don’t have to re-enter them every time.

With this tool, you’ll be able to import data from an API directly into your Google Sheets in 3 simple steps:

  1. Enter in your API settings and submit the request
  2. Review the API response and pick the data you want to import
  3. Select the tab you want and import the data with a single click
